RCDSO Elects First Female Dentist Representative in Central Toronto
Earlier this month, the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDSO) elected their first female dentist for Council in Central Toronto, Dr. Amelia Chan.
Following her landslide victory, Dr. Chan stated, “This is a great honour. I look forward to maintaining this powerful momentum in the new year.”
Dr. Chan is the principal owner of Downtown Dentistry and has served the downtown Toronto area faithfully as a general practice dentist. Like other dentists, she has been concerned about numerous key issues and chose to focus her election platform on them. The most prominent issues of mounting concern to Dr. Chan and her colleagues include:
- Overabundance of dental providers in Central Toronto and other urban areas
- Recent increases in regulations and requirements for dental professionals and clinics
- Permission to use Botox and Fillers
- Growth rate and threat of corporate dentistry practices
Dr. Chan attributed the successful election results to her issue choices since she and her colleagues have growing concerns about them. Dr. Chan referred to the election when she said, “I want to thank everyone who voted for me. This was an incredible team effort.” She is scheduled to begin her new role on January 11, 2017.
She hopes her colleagues contribute and encourages them to be participatory in making decisions while she is serving on the Council over the next two years. Dr. Chan stated, “I believe that together we will make a positive and powerful difference for dentists and patients in Central Toronto.”
